September Empties

I didn’t empty out much makeup this month, but a few other things ran dry.

1. Burt’s Bees Fabulously Fresh Peppermint & Rosemary Body Wash, 12oz ($8) – Last year around this time I went on a quest for sulfate-free body wash because my skin tends to get itchy and flaky, especially when winter sets in and the heat is running everywhere. I though finding one would be impossible, but I randomly ran across this at Walgreens. The smell is refreshing and it lathers surprisingly well. Most importantly though, it doesn’t overdry my skin. The 12oz bottle lasts for a long time too – I didn’t keep track exactly, but probably a few months. I think I’m on my third bottle of this. 2. Illamasqua Hydra Veil Rehydrating Gel ($40 for 1oz) – I got a couple deluxe samples of this from Sephora, and I’m about halfway through the second one – each one is enough to last 2-3 weeks. The consistency is a bit like jello until you warm it up in your hands, but then it smooths on easily. It contains sodium hyaluronate for hydration and niacinamide, which is anti-inflammatory and can help fade hyperpigmentation (though I’m not sure if this product really has a high enough concentration for it to be effective). In any case, I have noticed a decrease in flakiness throughout the day since I started using this, so I may end up buying it; I have a sample of Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum that I need to try out first though. 3. Burberry The Beat Eau de Parfum,  2.5oz ($88) – To be honest, I’m not a fragrance girl. I hate anything with patchouli notes (which rules out a surprising number of options) and a lot of scents either cause allergic reactions of various types or trigger migraines. I was thrilled to find out that The Beat does none of those things, and that has made it my signature scent for the past few years. It’s light, fresh and a bit woodsy. Unfortunately it was discontinued earlier this year, but it’s still available at a few places online (like fragrancenet.com) so I need to hurry and buy it all up before it’s gone forever!
