Lipstick Queen Toppers Will Transform Your Fall Lip Wardrobe
[prsample][afflink]
It’s no big secret that I have a ‘type’ when it comes to lipstick. I love bright, warm pinks, and bold reds are fantastic too. I tend to steer clear of burgundies, berries and deep colors though – I just don’t think they look good enough on me to actually fork over the cash for them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I know I’m not alone in that, and there’s nothing wrong with it! Until the holidays roll around and I realize I don’t have any fall lipstick colors, or fun ones to wear for holiday parties. Oops. So in come lip toppers to save the day! I’ve been playing around with a couple from Lipstick Queen lately, and they’re just what the doctor ordered when it comes to getting my existing lipstick collection ready for the holidays and cool-weather looks.
Black Lace Rabbit looked a little intimidating to me when I first popped the tube open. Dark lipsticks are not so much my thing, and the bullet for this one is a dark black with sparkles. As it turns out, it’s extremely sheer – the swatch above is a couple swipes – so it won’t automatically turn everything you own into a goth version of itself. It does deepen the color of whatever you layer it over, and the shimmers lend a kind of vampy, glam look. The base has a bluish tinge to it, so I noticed it tends to make most colors pull a little more cool-toned.
On the other hand, Altered Universe (I have it in Space Cadet) brightens everything up. The clear vinyl-shine base is chock full of silver and lilac shimmer for an ethereal look. It makes me think of ice princesses and elves (the Rivendell kind, not Santa’s buddies). It’s non-sticky and pretty comfortable to wear. The only word of warning I have regarding this one is you’ll definitely want to wipe off the doe foot wand before you dip it back in the tube; otherwise you run the risk of mixing in whatever lip color you’re pairing it with.
And now the moment you’ve been waiting for – swatches! I tested each over a few different color families for you. Both of the toppers make a visible difference to the lipstick, but they’re still very wearable.
I love the effects as worn too. The LQ toppers meld nicely with the original lipstick without looking cakey or goopy. You can click on the picture below for close-ups. I bet you could also do some really cool ombre effects using both of these in one look, I just haven’t tried it yet.
In Short: Black Lace Rabbit & Altered Universe are must-haves if you want to add more variety to your lip color game without buying every color in multiple finishes.

December 9, 2017 at 3:22 amI thought Black Lace Rabbit was a full-on goth color when I first saw the pic. I like how it slightly darkens and make things a bit more mysterious!
